Proposed changes to Black Hills Photography Club monthly meetings

The following proposal was opened at the Oct 13, 2026 member meeting. This proposal was pushed to a motion and seconded to be opened for discussion with a vote taking place at the November 2026 member meeting. Please thoroughly read the below proposal and prepare your questions, comments, and concerns to be discussed during the November meeting. A vote to move forward with the proposed change will happen at the November meeting.

At the BHPC General Meeting on October 13th, Karen Mahoney made a motion to change/update our meeting agendas starting in January 2027 to better meet the needs of our members and allow for better learning and socialization for our members. It is the hope that this would result in more active member participation and encourage members to help fill the needs for keeping our organization successful. Discussion of the following proposed agenda is encouraged. Amendments to the current bylaws and constitution may be needed to accommodate the changes, if approved and voted in by the general membership.

This proposal would allow for a quarterly rotation of the following:

‍ ‍

Month 1: Education and learning. This month would be focused on learning in a hands on field trip or workshop.

Examples: Portrait lighting workshop, Posing with models, Product photography, Light painting, Street photography,

Action Photography, Pet Photography, etc. Members are welcome to propose ideas.

Month 2: Editing and critiquing your photos, preferably ones taken from month 1's activity. Bring your laptops and photos to work on

or watch and learn from members doing editing. Learn about composition, cropping, color adjusting, etc.

‍ ‍

Month 3: General business meeting with club competition. Competitions would, hopefully, corelate to our learning from prior months

activities.

The proposed agenda would allow us to bring our images full circle; allowing us to go from clicking our cameras to a finished image. Learning, growing, and challenging ourselves to become better photographers.

Board meetings would continue on a monthly basis. If issues arise that need to be addressed by the general membership, before

the next scheduled general meeting, a special zoom meeting would be called by the president. Important items, such as financial reports, would be available monthly on the website "for members only".

Our officer duties and chair duties would become less burdensome, as most would be brought back to our monthly meetings on a quarterly basis ( cutting service requirements to 4x a year vs. 12x a year). Though additional fieldtrips and workshops, community service, and exhibit participation would be highly encouraged, this would guarantee that we are providing a minimal learning experience to our members on a regular basis and encouraging growth in photography.
